At the Conference on "Scientific Publishing in the European Research Area" held in Brussels on 15-16 February 2007, the Director General of CERN, Dr. Robert Aymar, outlined a practical approach for a transition of High Energy Physics scientific publishing to Open Access.
This approach is centred on the conversion of existing high-quality journals to Open Access by re-directing subscriptions through a sponsoring consortium of High Energy Physics funding agencies and libraries worldwide.
